There is is. My current iPhone home screen. It is a bit of a shame it is all going to change sometime right after I post this.
See here is the deal, I have come to believe that the only icons that should be on the first screen are the ones you really use. And by use I mean at least once a week and ideally several times a day. And while I can say for certain that applies to many of the apps that you see in this screenshot, others I am less sure about.
Therefore, here is the plan. With the exception of those in the “dock” area (Phone, Mail, Messages, and Safari) which I consider crucial to the entire point of even having an iPhone, I am going to clear everything from the home screen. Any apps that get accessed more than once in the course of the next week will be allowed to come back. Why more than once? Well, that disqualifies any anomalies (i.e I need to use this one thing out of the blue this particular week even though I rarely use it).
I will post next week to show you what remains.

Great initiative. It made me curious about my own homescreen. I’ve posted my homescreen before. I have some OCD tendencies sometimes and therefor organize everything by color. Going to follow this initiative and clean up my homescreen as-well. Look for the result next week.

Do I think the Nexus One is better than the iPhone? No. There are certain things it does better (I’ll get to that), but overall, if I had choose one, I would still choose the iPhone — specifically, the iPhone 3GS

Facebook 3.1 for iPhone

Today Facebook released a new version of their iPhone app brining it up to version 3.1.

They have also finally included a feature I have been waiting for, for a long time. Push notifications. As you can see on the picture you can easily customize for which events you want to receive push notifications.

It took them a long time to get it implemented but I’m happy it finally arrived. Push notifications however isn’t the only new feature.

There is also a new feature that allows you to sync your contacts with Facebook. Before you jump to the app and turn on this feature, please be warned. I’ve tried the feature today and turned on the “Replace photos” feature.facebook for iphone contact sync

The app started replacing pictures on my contacts, which was to be expected. however it also put pictures on contacts that weren’t even on my Facebook. I’ve been reading some posts about this and apparently I’m not the only one having trouble with this feature. After turning the sync back off it removed all the pictures of my contacts. NOT cool facebook!

AT&T: It’s 2010. Do you know where your tethering is?

rentzsch:

Tom Harrington / @atomicbird:

Remember when AT&T promised to offer iPhone tethering by the end of 2009? Yeah, that was cool.

Yeah, it was.

Tethering is sole reason I’m keeping my iPhone on OS 3.0.1 — Apple fixed the hole in 3.1 that allowed tethering even on AT&T’s network.

I don’t use tethering a lot, but it’s incredibly handy when I do, and gives me the warm fuzzies when I’m out and about with my notebook that I can handle pretty much anything.

I’m betting that even when (should I say if?) AT&T offers tethering, it will be at an exorbitant monthly rate — something that doesn’t fit my rare use of the feature.

I’d hope that AT&T would offer a daily rate for tethering, but it’s a mistake to put “hope” and “AT&T” in the same sentence.

Even though I’m not in the US we have similar problems here in The Netherlands. T-Mobile does not offer or plan to offer tethering for iPhone users. I’m stuck on 3.0.1 for the same reason. Probably not updating until some new features are included in iPhone OS 4.0. Most of the people I know with an iPhone don’t update for the same reason. Since my friend circle of people with an iPhone mainly consists of people (or geeks) who actually use (and love) the tethering feature, this probably isn’t a fair representation of the iPhone users in The Netherlands.
