Reinventing the Collect Call →
I’ve just received my invite for Vox.io, a new VOIP service which is currently still in beta. Obviously I haven’t had much time to play around with it yet having signed-up only minutes ago. It has already caught my attention in a big way by introducing a feature they call “Quick Call” which is a reincarnation of what used to be known as collect calls.
We thought it might be a great idea to offer you that possibility. Since vox.io runs in your browser and does not require additional software installation all you have to do is create a Quick Call link and share that with the person you want to hear from. We send Quick Call links via IM, IRC, email, Twitter DMs, Facebook messages and even calendar invites. Sounds easy? It is.
All the recipient of the link has to do to call you back is open the link and click on the Start Quick Call button. vox.io is going to ring either your browser if you are on-line, or your phone when you are off-line.
I can think of so many uses for this feature. The most notable being a customer service tool. I’ll be giving Vox.io a more in depth look soon when I need to make some calls to Latin America. Right now it has one big drawback though: it only works with flash. They’re working on apps for iOS and Android according to their website and I hope they’ll consider native Mac OS X aswell since this:

is unacceptable.
If you want to join Vox.io and didn’t get an invite yet you can use this link. They’ll even give you some free credits to make calls.
