The Facebook Graph API Explorer →
The Graph API explorer makes it easy to get started with the Graph API and test the API as you program against it and build your app.
Finally an official Facebook Graph API Explorer.

Going all Internet Explorer on Facebook's ass →
Google+ is Google’s latest attempt at putting Facebook out of business. Like they previously tried with Buzz, and Wave, and Orkut.
My first reaction was best summarized by Alex Hackbart:
I need another social network account like I need an asshole on my forehead
I do love competition however, since it should (theoretically) only benefit the users. Still as a user I’m quite...

Google Swiffy →
A interesting new project from Google:
Swiffy converts SWF files (the file format for Flash) to HTML5. It allows Flash authors to make their animations available on modern browsers without the need for a plugin.
I’m still skeptical it will be used a lot or do anything to reduce the use of flash. Ideally, though, flash could be used as a fallback for when HTML5 is not available instead...

Why is European broadband faster and cheaper?... →
Rick Karr reporting for Engadget:
We went to the Netherlands because it has one of the world’s most advanced and fastest-growing fiber-optic networks. We visited homes there that get 100 mbps service in both directions — they can upload as fast as they download — as well as TV and phone for under $100 a month.
Another reason to come to Appsterdam.

'Apple in big trouble - can't survive' →
I chuckled when I read this:
“Apple’s in big trouble. They’re sitting on piles of cash, but they are sitting on a closed system. In biology, in history, a closed system never survives”
Especially when he followed it up with this:
It is for this reason that he applauds Ford for adopting an open system with its MyFord Touch and SYNC Applink technologies.
Ford is definitely...

Tonight the TV show CNBC Titans will air a biography of Steve Jobs. Probably it won’t contain much new information but nonetheless it might be interesting for geeks like me.

The Android tablet problem →
It seems I’m not the only one taking all these Android tablet reviews with a huge grain of salt. Marco tears down Ars Technica’s review of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
This, not how closely a manufacturer can mimic the iPad’s hardware, is what reviewers should be asking about each new tablet: Why would a significant number of buyers choose this instead of an iPad?
Or, more...

Joanna Stern reviews the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1... →
She doesn’t hate it.
Some of my observations:
Does that mean it’s better than the iPad 2? In some respects, yes. Its camera takes better shots and it’s lighter to hold, but Honeycomb’s trailing app selection continues, and will continue to, hold back even the most miraculous Honeycomb hardware.
First, if you are buying the iPad 2 for the camera You’re doing...

Shawn Blanc on Off-Site Backups →
Shawn has a great detailed write up of his experience with various off-site backup solutions. I recommend you give it a full read. For those in a hurry here is an excerpt of his conclusion:
All this to say, it is a good idea to have an offsite backup, and I recommend using a cloud-based service because it’s easy to set up and easy to keep up to date.
Backblaze and CrashPlan both work well...

Google Sync: now with mail server search and... →
Beginning today, users can finally perform mail server searches and confirm appointment requests from their iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. This means that you’ll be able to search for messages in your entire mailbox, not just for emails stored on your device
About time! Now I can finally lower my “Mail Days to Sync” setting from “No Limit” to something more...

Nokia enters patent license agreement with Apple →
I guess that settles that, that and that. I honestly always expected them to settle. If you are interested you can find Nokia’s Press Release here.
Nokia PR:
The financial structure of the agreement consists of a one-time payment payable by Apple and on-going royalties to be paid by Apple to Nokia for the term of the agreement. The specific terms of the contract are confidential.

Sofa has been acquired by Facebook →
When I woke up this morning I couldn’t quite believe what I was reading on Twitter. The talented guys from Sofa announced they have been acquired by Facebook and are moving to Palo Alto to work at Facebook HQ.
The Sofa team will be moving from Amsterdam to Palo Alto in the coming weeks – and we’ll make sure to infuse some of our particular flavor of Dutch culture at Facebook.

Apple Reverses Course On In-App Subscriptions →
Apple has quietly changed its guidelines on the pricing of In-App Subscriptions on the App Store. There are no longer any requirements that a subscription be the “same price or less than it is offered outside the app”. There are no longer any guidelines about price at all. Apple also removed the requirement that external subscriptions must be also offered as an in-app purchase.

What you need to know about iTunes Match →
Ars Technica has a nice breakdown with some crucial information on how iTunes Match works. It contains nothing to surprising and is all alongs the lines you’ve come to expect from Apple really.
If you don’t renew the yearly $25 subscription, your iCloud store goes away. iTunes purchases will still be available to all devices, and anything that you have downloaded from iCloud to you...

Totally deserved success. I literally spent days on this game. With their recent addition of multiplayer in the form of “Arena Mode” they totally got me hooked and playing it all over again.

Patrick Rhone:
But these two things bring up an important (to me at least) question – how will iCloud handle this from an account perspective? Will we be able to say, for instance, both my wife’s devices and mine belong to the same iCloud account for some things but have separate accounts for others? For example, she currently has her own Apple ID and therefore her own music, app and other...

I was wrong
Remember how just yesterday I told you about my recommended ritual before the yearly WWDC Keynote ?
Turns out I was wrong. The most expensive product announced during yesterday’s keynote was Mac OS X Lion. Which at only $ 29.99 is a real bargain.
Even if any of the products announced yesterday would have been more expensive the words “Available Today!” have not been...

John Gruber:
iCloud is the new iTunes. The tethered digital hub is dead; long live the wireless digital hub. Apple sees iCloud as shaping the next ten years the way the iTunes-on-your-Mac/PC digital hub shaped the last ten.
And:
Google’s frame is the browser window. Apple’s frame is the screen. That’s what we’ll remember about today’s keynote ten years from now.

⌚ Pre-WWDC keynote thoughts
It’s June again, which can mean only 2 things. Summer is approaching fast and Apple geeks are going out of their minds over an approximately 2 hour lasting speech of their favorite tech company at the WWDC. Which is an acronym for World Wide Drinking Contest, or at least so I was told. If they are lucky there will even ben an infamous One More Thing™ at the end of it. The expectations are...

Short logic: Groupon IPO: Pass on this deal →
Groupon has filed its S-1 and hopes to raise $750M in its initial public offering. Given they’re currently losing a staggering $117M per quarter, despite revenues of $644M, they’ll be burning through that cash almost as soon as it hits their account.
At the moment, it’s costing them $1.43 to make $1, and it doesn’t look like it’s getting any cheaper.

Phill Ryu:
In just a little over 6.5 days, The Heist has racked up a staggering 501,813 sales at 99¢, totaling well over $300,000 in revenue. To put that in perspective, our last chart-topping app, Voices, managed to clear 300,000 sales… in its first month, meaning The Heist has been outselling it at a rate of nearly 8 fold! Makes us wonder if we outsold the entire paid Android marketplace...

Marco Arment did some research on OCR Software for Mac. Could have used this about a month ago when my father asked me for the best OCR software. Without much research my father went with Read Iris and I haven’t heard many complaints yet. Marco comes to a different conclusion however, check it out.
